Graduate Student Teaching Orientation

Are you a graduate student or postdoc getting ready to serve as a TA or instructor of record? The Teaching and Learning Transformation hosts an orientation for you every January and August. Each orientation consists of both an asynchronous handbook for you to access any time and live workshops, either in person or over Zoom. The handbook and live workshops cover different materials, so we recommend you engage with both.

Register for Synchronous Workshops

Join us on Zoom on Monday January 23rd, 2-4pm for our live orientation event. In this interactive session, you'll discuss developing your teaching identity, giving effective feedback, and important resources and policies to guide your work.

Read the Asynchronous Handbook

Look through this handbook any time for information on common topics for graduate instructors of record and TAs. It includes sections on understanding your responsibilities, technology support and guidance, lesson planning, and more.

Watch recorded content

Watch some of the August 2022 orientation sessions for information welcoming you to teaching at UMD and explaining some of the ways you will think about your new role as an instructor.
