How the Pathways Work

  1. Flexible Learning: Complete the core courses or equivalent learning experiences.
  2. Verified Skill Badges: Earn a badge for each topic you explore to build your digital portfolio of teaching competencies.
  3. Apply Your Learning: Engage in a culminating experience to apply concepts to your specific courses.
  4. Expert Feedback: Receive personalized feedback from TLTC specialists to refine your practice.
  5. Earn Your Micro-credential: Upon completion of all courses and the culminating experience, receive a micro-credential certifying your expertise in the pathway.

TERP Teaching Essentials

Embark on an enriching adventure with our Welcome to Teaching at UMD digital course. Whether you're stepping into your first classroom or bringing years of experience from another institution, this course is your gateway to mastering UMD's educational technology systems.

Instructors

Instructors who have been teaching at the University of Maryland for more than two semesters will be awarded the TERP Teaching Essentials badge. For new-to-us instructors, please use the button below to access the self-paced training.

For New Graduate Teaching Assistants (TA)

If you are new in your role as a Teaching Assistant here at the University of Maryland, welcome! 

Prepare for your role by choosing:

  1. Self-paced digital course, and/or 
  2. In-person Grad Orientation to Teaching (August)

Both options equip you with essential skills for success as a UMD TA. Options are complementary, so you may choose both.
