Creating an Inclusive Climate for Dialogue in Your Classroom

Thursday, March 26, 2020 - 11:00 to 12:15

ESJ 0201

Having meaningful class conversations can become challenging - particularly when students are asked to share their ideas and opinions, or challenge the ideas and opinions of their peers. Research has shown that this is especially true for students of color and other marginalized groups. During this session, we will work through how to create a classroom climate that encourages students to have meaningful dialogue in face-to-face and online courses.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to do the following -  define the terms: inclusive climate, safe space, & brave space, define dialogue, describe a meaningful dialogue, and determine a plan of 6 practices for creating an inclusive climate for dialogue.
