CTE-Lilly Graduate Fellows’ 2010 - 2011

The third year Graduate Lilly Fellows designed and executed a campus-wide survey of all instructional faculty to assess the current state of knowledge about active learning on campus. The survey included the perspectives of faculty, teaching staff, and GTAs on the definitions and use of civic engagement and service learning in their courses. After analyzing the qualitative and quantitative data, the Fellows hosted a CTE workshop to discuss their findings and delivered presentations at the Graduate Research Interaction Day, Innovations in Teaching and Learning, and Lilly-DC conferences.

Preliminary recommendations were made for understanding how UM instructors from many disciplines view and use civic engagement and service learning, and how courses might incorporate active learning more effectively based on this combined understanding.
